Winter Holiday Traditions at Government Canyon State Natural Area celebrates the holidays the old-fashioned way, with crafts that families might have made on the historic ranches that became Government Canyon. It's a come-and-go activity from Texas Parks and Wildlife, open to all ages.

Make an evergreen wreath, a beeswax candle, and traditional holiday toys and crafts. Then pick up the holiday-themed trail scavenger hunt and head out on nearby paths like the Discovery Trail, before or after crafting.

No registration is needed, but the Natural Area often fills to capacity, so pre-purchase and print a day pass. Park in the lots and follow the paved path to the Visitor Center; the Gallery meeting spot is right next to it. The space has a roof but no heat, so wear warm layers, comfortable shoes, and a hat, and bring at least 32 ounces of water per person. Minors need a parent or legal guardian, and the program can be canceled for weather.
